A BRIEF HISTORY

Having launched brand new apps powered by Pugpig, in late 2020 - initially for The Canberra Times and The Newcastle Herald – and then expanding to ACM’s 14 regional daily newspaper titles, ACM were again committed to providing a much-improved mobile reading experience for their readers and subscribers.

Working with the ACM team to reimagine and relaunch the apps, Pugpig called upon X-CAGO’s unparalleled content processing power to deliver ACM subscribers outstanding new features including a faster and cleaner reader experience and a better digital version of Today's Paper on both PC’s and mobile devices wherever they are.

The roll out commenced with The Canberra Times in January 2023 with the other daily tiles following in quick succession.

The Canberra Times app brings together the best of the daily newspaper and its website to take the news reading experience to another level.

The app is free to download, but readers need to be a Canberra Times subscriber to read articles.

Basic subscribers get access to all articles. Premium subscribers also get access to Today's Paper, a digital replica of the paper, and the interactive puzzles.

PUGPIG & X-CAGO

A UNIQUE COLLABORATION TO DELIVER A LEADING APP READER EXPERIENCE

Bolt provides a customisable set of curated cards that surface stories, audio, video, podcasts, events, puzzles, promotions, products, advertising, sponsorship and more. It comes with a rich set of analytics and is packed with rich features including sharing, deep linking, search, text resize, night mode, dynamic timelines, personalisation, offline mode, archive and scrapbooking.

Publishers can create digital editions, as responsive and interactive HTML pages, native PDF pages, or a hybrid of the two - called Enhanced PDF.

PUGPIG BOLT

The upgraded app experience for ACM’s daily titles has been achieved using Pugpig Bolt.

Bolt delivers highly customisable mobile apps combining live content, digital editions, podcasts, video on iOS, Android and web.

Bolt allows clients to build beautifully simple branded mobile apps that properly embrace the power of mobile that has audiences hooked.

Content can be automatically fed directly into Pugpig from Arc XP, with no editorial intervention working beautifully across phones, tablets and desktop and integrating with all the major app stores and plugging into the publishers’ own subsystems.

The SuperSet data format actively observes and supports all major data protocols defined by major eKiosks, and seamless ingestion for B2B partners app providers and publishers.

While each of these import protocols and schemas differ in scope and complexity, the X-CAGO format is so comprehensive that it can easily be used for conversion to these and other less sophisticated XML formats and JSON schemas.

ENHANCED PDF

On behalf of ACM, X-CAGO deliver to Pugpig their conversion service where they take PDFs and turn them into structured content. The structured content gets imported into Pugpig Express and delivered as either responsive HTML editions, or enhanced PDF editions.

In June 2021, X-CAGO became an important part of the PMG Presse-Monitor family. PMG has the largest daily press database in the German-speaking world and is a leading provider of digital media monitoring, press review creation and media evaluation.
